Pitch Rail

An equal-spacing field instrument that removes cumulative rounding from repeated hole and stitch layouts.

The problem

Small-shop makers laying out repeated holes, rivets, or stitches across a fixed run often start with equal edge offsets and a preferred pitch, then discover that the usable span does not divide into a whole number of intervals. Rounding each next position can accumulate error and miss the far edge datum. Pitch Rail keeps that bounded operation causal: enter one run, equal offsets, and a target pitch; resolve the nearest whole interval count; click or keyboard-inspect every mark on a proportional rail; then copy the same origin-based measurements as a shop ticket. It performs deterministic equal-spacing arithmetic only and does not assess material, fastener, drill-bit, clearance, edge-breakout, structure, or tool safety; every plan must be verified against the physical workpiece before making holes. Values stay in ephemeral browser state, with no account, persistence, paid API, credential, tracking SDK, outbound email, advertising, payment, or destructive operation. Production deployment dpl_4xAACQ4uS43ko9VChktVAc6GyuBH reached READY before independent Foundry artifact, HTTPS deploy, and nine-step behavior checks passed at the stable alias.

Architecture

Key decisions

01

Measure every mark from one datum

The core resolves one actual pitch, then derives each position from the left origin. The ticket never asks a maker to chain rounded gaps from the previous mark.

02

Make the rail the operating surface

The dark measuring bed is not decorative. Fixed edge zones, every cyan mark, the active inspector, and the ledger all consume the same tested plan; click and arrow-key selection expose one coordinate in context.

03

Keep the workshop claim narrow

Pitch Rail plans equal spacing only. It explicitly leaves material behavior, tool diameter, edge breakout, structural suitability, and safe operation to the maker and requires verification on the physical workpiece.

04

Use original surveyor-shop precision

Warm ruled stock, a graphite field, surveyor orange, blueprint cyan, acid focus, Georgia scale statements, narrow controls, and monospaced dimensions create an asymmetric Operate bench without gradients, blur, feature tiles, icon toppers, center stacking, or ornamental metrics.

05

Let failed gates harden the release

A stale lockfile, inherited vulnerable packages, a sixteen-worker host abort, an occupied local port, and temporary browser thread exhaustion all failed honestly before the dependency surface, worker cap, owned port, and production retry were verified.
